Transform Your Backyard With a Traditional Barrel Sauna
A traditional barrel sauna creates a stunning focal point on your property. It’s the ultimate wellness oasis for you and your loved ones.
A traditional sauna is the most authentic form of sauna therapy. Intense heat warms the stones, which in turn raises the temperature inside the barrel. You control humidity by throwing ladles of water on them as you see fit. There’s nothing quite like having this right out your back door.
Your search for an outdoor barrel sauna ends here. No matter your budget, style preferences, or reason for burying a barrel sauna, you’ll find the perfect pick here in our online storefront.
We stock SaunaLife, Dundalk, True North, Golden Designs, and Finnmark - industry-leading brands that have been creating functional works of art for decades. Starting at $4,999, backed by our price-matching policy, free shipping, and hassle-free financing.

Most traditional barrel saunas in this collection run wood stoves. Golden Designs has electric heaters if you prefer push-button simplicity. Wood means a chimney and the ritual of building a fire before every session. SaunaLife and some True North models ship flat-packed as kits. Dundalk arrives partially assembled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are barrel saunas better than regular saunas?
Different, not better. A traditional barrel sauna heats faster because there's less dead air inside the curved walls. They naturally shed water and snow, and they look stunning in a yard without. A rectangular cabin gives you more headroom and flat walls for mounting accessories. Looks a little more modern, too. We carry both at Premium Saunas.
How long does a traditional barrel sauna take to heat up?
Wood-burning models need 30 to 45 minutes, depending on size and outside temperature. Electric heaters are similar but hold temp more consistently once they get there. Smaller barrels heat faster across the board.
What wood should I look for?
Everything in this collection works well outdoors. Western red cedar is the most common since it naturally resists rot and decay - expect to pay a pretty penny for it. Dundalk uses Canadian timber. Finnmark offers thermo-aspen, which is heat-treated for extra durability without chemical sealant.
How much does a traditional barrel sauna cost?
As little as $4,999 for a 2-person model. Most of our customers end up paying between $6,000 to $8,000 range.
