SaunaLife G11

GD 8-Person Full Spectrum

True North 10' Barrel

Traditional

An 8-person traditional sauna can be powered by either an electric stone heater or a wood-burning stove. These produce a very intense, radiating heat that leads to a strong sweat response. You can pour water over the stones to create steam in the space and really elevate the sauna experience.

The SaunaLife G11 is one of our best-selling saunas for 8 people. It’s a full outdoor cabin crafted from premium-grade thermo-spruce. It features a built-in changing room, covered porch, and 2-tier seating for up to 8 people. It also has front and rear windows. The total footprint is 161" x 118", so plan on dedicating around 14' x 10' of space in your yard.

You can also consider the CL12GCP cube if you don’t need a separate changing room and are looking for a more affordable sauna for 8 people. Or, consider the True North Pod Saunas. They’re the most economical choice in this 8-person sauna collection.

Infrared

An 8-person infrared sauna is a totally different experience since the heat comes from infrared panels pointed directly at your body, which warm you from within rather than heating the space itself. They operate at lower temperatures than a traditional sauna (120°F-150°F vs 150°F-195°F), so sessions are a little more comfortable - but you’re not compromising on the wellness benefits at all.

Our most popular 8-person infrared models are from Golden Designs, one of the top brands the industry has to offer. The Catalonia starts at $8,999 and comes equipped with near-zero EMF PureTech panels. The 8-person Full Spectrum model costs $1,000 more but unlocks additional wavelengths for more well-rounded benefits.

Both of these are big saunas, as you’d expect from any 8-person sauna. Plan on using up at least 8’ x 7’ of space plus ample clearance on all sides. These are indoor-only saunas, so they work best in a basement, garage, or a big room in your home that isn’t being used for anything else right now - the perfect start to a home fitness center!

Barrel

The most rustic sauna style out there. An 8-person barrel sauna is one of our personal favorites because it completely transforms the way your property looks (these are outdoor-only models). But aesthetics aside, these barrel saunas heat more evenly thanks to the cylindrical shape.

The True North 10’ Barrel is our best-selling 8-person model. It’s also our most affordable at only $6,850. It comes in cedar or thermo-pine with a wood-burning stove, or you can add an electric heater for more control over the experience. It’s 10’ long and around 7.5’ in diameter, comfortably seating 6-8 people.

Frequently asked questions

Can I actually fit 8 adults in these saunas?

It depends on how big they are. And how comfortably everyone will fit is another story. The term “8-person” is used very loosely in the context of sauna sizing. The SaunaLife cabins are the biggest as far as interior space goes, and they have two-tier seating so people don’t have to be crammed next to each other while enjoying the sauna session.

How big is a sauna for 8 people?

It varies from one 8-person sauna to the next. We have quite a few models in this collection - some with as small an exterior footprint as 7’ x 6’ and some as big as 14’ x 10’. Be sure to check the exterior dimensions for whatever model you’re considering buying, and make sure you have that space available PLUS a little more for clearance. Our customer service team can help you size your sauna to perfection if you need help.

Do I need a sauna this big?

Be realistic with yourself about how many people are going to use the sauna regularly. A sauna for 8 people sounds great, but if you only ever have 4-5 people in it, you’re probably taking up more space and spending more on heating than you need to. We have a sauna for you no matter your size requirements. Get in touch for guidance.

Do I need to hire an electrician to install an 8-person sauna?

Usually, yes. The infrared and traditional 8-person saunas we carry are both likely to need a dedicated 240V connection, which is something that should be handled by an electrician.

What is the best material for an 8-person sauna?

It depends on where you’re installing the sauna - indoors vs outdoors. You have a lot more flexibility indoors since the sauna doesn’t have to be weather resistant. Outdoors, you need either cedar or thermally-modified wood (such as pine or spruce). Cedar is the industry standard because it’s naturally resistant to rot and decay, and it weathers to a beautiful silver-gray patina over the years. It’s maintenance-free, too.

Will I have to apply for a permit for a sauna for 8 people?

A lot of local building departments will require you to get a permit for freestanding outdoors structures above a certain size, and a sauna for 8 people may meet that threshold. Do your due diligence. Don’t forget about HOA bylaws if you live in a neighborhood that has one, either.

Can I install a sauna for 8 people on my own?

Most 8-person sauna kits we carry are DIY friendly - aside from the wiring work, of course. Plan on spending one full day or perhaps a weekend working on it. These structures are big. It’s best to have a set of helping hands.
